Maggi Hambling is one of my all time favourite artists, her use of paint really exudes movement which will be one of my main concepts in my own art. She is a British contemporary painter and sculptor and is best known for her sculpture on London beach ‘Scallop’ (2003) made for Oscar Wilde. I am most interested in her paintings they are figurative yet abstracted, flowing line and contrasting tones make her art pieces vibrant and eye catching. Through my own use of oil paints, I hope to experiment with similar techniques to capture movement and multiple colours in my paintings.
I wanted to include her as an artist reference because of the way she paints, the ink series are really interesting and the shapes which are made from the ink itself and the white space around them could be blown up and used as shapes for abstracted aspects of the landscapes like hills, bushes or fields.
