Max Ernst was a German painter, sculptor & graphic artist and poet. Also, he was a primary pioneer of the Dada movement modern art and surrealism. I picked out these paintings from the Tate website, his project was called ‘The Entire City’ which to me is important as it is a direct approach to the project I am doing.
Using rubbings of textured surfaces he has created these two frottage images, I particularly like them because the abstract technique still shows true aspects of the city, the brighter colours and the dark sky with the moon. Also the first image caught my eye as he’s incorporated nature and the beauty that nature is still a big part of the entire city. The textured feel to these paintings truly captures the light and movement of the City.
