Visual Literacy – Jenny Godfrey (library) 13/11/14

This study skills session showed us how to use the elctronic library and how to find images using databases, we also discussed ways in which we could find out more about the images and how images help us to explain things.

  • Find images
  • Interpret Images
  • Evaluate Images & their sources
  • Use images
  • Create new images

Iconic images of protest – Passive protest…

What do pictures do?

  • An advert is to persuade a buyer
  • A map or newspaper is to inform
  • Communicate Identity
  • Decorate
  • Amaze
  • Proof
  • Document a likeness

Once we had found an image using the database we had to collate some information about that image then stand up in front of the class and talk about it, I had difficulty doing this so I stayed quiet… However, I found using the databases and portal to find books and images quite interesting.
