Artist Research – Valeriane Leblond

French and Quebecker artist who lives and works in Wales and has done sice 2007.

I was instantly charmed by the landscapes and architecture of my new home: the green hills which fuse into the sea, the large Cardigan Bay, its cliffs and beaches of smooth pebbles, its trees which have been bent with the wind, the small whitewashed  cottages with their roofs of Caernarvon slate, their small doors with colourful window frames. The local way of life is also an inspiration to me : the country folk, the fishermen, the housewives, those who live off the land, from the sea, and through their efforts and perseverance.

She mainly paints on wooden panels, or textured mediums including a lot of colour and patterns. I love her welsh landscapes from her 2014 collection, and i want to portray some of her techniques in my own work as they resemble folk art.
