Artist Research – Nazia Khan

Born in 1968, Bahawalpur Punjab. She Lives and works in Karachi, Pakistan. I love her work, she creates these images of scenes and movement using charcoal, conte and acrylic on Fabriano paper. A contemporary artist from Pakistan she produces artwork which she sometimes incorporates clothing;

The use of clothing in my work began as a strategy to explore the emotional content of the body through attire. Lingerie, armour, straight jackets and other imagined pieces create multiple identities  and personae.

I want to look into her work as i think its attractive and the use of clothing is a similarity in my work so far as i want to incorporate sari like materials, i want to create an image which shows a lower caste Indians maybe using a watercolour wash with the semi- transparent material over the top. To almost give the image a ghostly feel, as if the Dalits are covered by the beauty of India (shown through the clothing) i am going to try out some test pieces of this today.
